The City of Newburgh is pleased to announce updates to its emergency notification system. Powered by CodeRED, City staff have the ability to deliver high-speed mass notifications to residents during emergencies such as snow storm parking rules, boil water advisories, and missing child alerts.
Notifications can be sent via call, text and email. They can be delivered to a City-wide audience in the case of snow emergency parking, or to a specific neighborhood during a boil water advisory. In order to ensure everyone is able to remain informed, residents and businesses are encouraged to enroll. Users can access the system by visiting the Citizen Action Center on the homepage of the City website at www.cityofnewburgh-ny.gov. Click the Emergency Notifications button to enroll by providing phone numbers, email addresses, and home addresses.
The City has already used the system this winter season to send City-wide alerts about snow emergency parking, and also to residents in the West End during a natural gas emergency in January that caused over 100 homes to lose heat on one of the coldest nights of the year.
No one should automatically assume they are already in the alerts database. Businesses, as well as individuals, should register, as should people with unlisted phone numbers, those who have changed their phone number or address within the last year, and people who use a cell phone as their primary phone. Cell phones and landlines can be included. Users who have recently moved but kept the same listed or unlisted phone number are encouraged to update their information in the database.
Users can create an account to enable them to update their profile if information changes. The information will be used for emergency notification purposes only and users should program the CodeRED number into their caller ID so as to not miss an important call. Users can download the CodeRED Mobile Alert app for a streamlined experience.
Users will find an emergency notification information section on the City website. The City website also offers a platform for subscriptions to non-emergency updates. These include notifications about City events, public meetings, employment vacancies, and updates on developments and initiatives.
Users without Internet access or those with difficulty enrolling or changing their information can call the City Manager’s office at (845) 569-7301, Monday-Friday, 8:30 AM-4:00 PM.
