Board of Electrical Examiners

The City of Newburgh Board of Electrical Examiners is responsible for procedures designed to ensure the safe installation of electrical wiring and appliances in any building in the city. To that end, it issues the following:

  • Licenses to Electrical Contractors, allowing them to perform electrical services in the City of Newburgh.
  • Permits for Electrical Work, allowing owners of buildings to install or modify electrical fittings using a licensed electrician.

List of Approved Inspection Agencies

The Board of Electrical Examiners consists of five members who are appointed by the City Manager. The Chairman of the Electrical Board is the Fire Chief of The City of Newburgh. One member is the Building Inspector of the City. One is an electrician licensed by the City of Newburgh. One is a member of an approved electrical inspection agency. One is an electrician who has completed a New York State approved apprentice training program and has been certified as a journeyman electrician.

Chapter 30 of The Code of The City of Newburgh New York established the Board of Electrical Examiners on 11-13-1967.
