The City of Newburgh seeks volunteers to serve on the Citizens Advisory Committee. The Citizens Advisory Committee’s sole purpose is to develop a pool of individuals interested and qualified to serve on the City of Newburgh’s next districting commission to evaluate the existing wards and redistrict them as necessary so that they remain compact and contiguous and in compliance with established standards of State and Federal law.
The Citizens Advisory Committee is comprised of seven (7) City residents – one (1) resident from each of the four (4) wards and three (3) resident at-large. The Citizens Advisory Committee will meet as soon after appointment as practicable to establish the pool of eligible residents to serve on the districting commission. The members of the Citizens Advisory Committee will solicit interest through a variety of methods, including mail and email, contact with civic groups, public service announcements on radio and television and in daily and weekly newspapers and announcements on the City’s website and shall review the applications submitted, verify that they meet the eligibility criteria stated in City Charter Section C1.21(C) and provide a listing of qualified applicants to the City Council.
