The City of Newburgh today welcomes five recruits beginning an eighteen-week comprehensive Firefighter certification program designed by the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control and held at the Career Firefighters Academy in Westchester County. Successful completion of the Academy will result in appointment to a Career Firefighter classification and would enable the recruits to begin field work for the City of Newburgh Fire Department by February 2023.
Fire Chief FJ Spinelli: “The Westchester Career Fire Chief’s Academy is administered by the industry’s leading fire service instructors and will prepare our new members for the breadth of calls for assistance they will encounter during their service to the City of Newburgh.”
These five recruits will join City of Newburgh Firefighters Jeffery Quintana and Elvis Pinero, who recently graduated from the Career Firefighters Academy. The hiring of Firefighters Quintana and Pinero has enabled the Fire Department to more consistently staff two engines and one ladder truck for daily operations. Filling these five additional vacancies will continue to provide the Fire Department with the personnel to staff appropriately.
Mayor Torrance Harvey: “I congratulate Firefighters Quintana and Pinero on their recent graduation from the Academy and I look forward to these five recruits joining them in service to the City of Newburgh. We will continue to ensure our Fire Department has the resources they need to meet operational goals.”
