To City of Newburgh Homeowner:
Homeowners in New York State who were financially affected by COVID-19 and are now behind on their housing payments, may be eligible for financial assistance through the New York State Homeowner Assistance Fund (NYS HAF).
Homeowners who occupy a home as their primary residence - meaning it is where you live for the majority of the calendar year - and are behind on their mortgage payments, property taxes, water/sewer bills, or monthly condominium common charges, may qualify for assistance.
More information is available about the NYS HAF program at www.nyhomeownerfund.org, or you can phone the NYS HAF call center at 1-844-776-9423 (Monday through Saturday 7 AM to 8 PM) with any additional questions about the program or the application process. The call center is staffed with live operators who speak multiple languages.
You can also get free help with your application from a certified housing counselor. In the mid-Hudson Valley, Rural Development Advisory Corp. (RDAC) has been designated by NYS as a regional housing counselor for the NYS HAF program. Contact RDAC at 845-713-4568 (Monday through Friday 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM) or consult their website – www.ocrdac.org – for more information.
The goal of this program is to allow as many New York State homeowners as possible stay in the homes. We urge you to act quickly. Funds are limited and initial applications must be submitted by February 2, 2022. It is important that you begin the process as soon as you can.
We hope you find this information helpful. Please contact the above resources if you have any questions.
