The City of Newburgh is pleased to announce the start of construction for the Downing Pond Outlet and Third Street Stormsewer project.
This project involves the installation of a new outlet control device on Downing Pond to reduce flooding in the area of Third Street, and the installation of new stormsewer infrastructure along Third Street between Robinson Avenue (9W) and Johnston Street. This project will also reconstruct the sidewalks along the north side of Third Street and will involve the installation of pedestrian bump-outs with ADA compliant curb ramps at the intersections of Third Street with Carpenter Avenue, City Terrace, Dubois Street and Johnston Street. Construction work will commence in January of 2022 and shall extend through December of 2022.
Be advised that this section of Third Street will be repaved in the Fall of 2022. Due to construction work that will take place within the roadway of Third Street, temporary NO PARKING signs with effective dates will be posted within the construction corridor at various times throughout the duration of the project. Partial road closures along this section of Third Street should also be anticipated. Please pay attention and obey all posted road closure and no parking restriction signs.
The City will also post notification signs suspending the street sweeping no parking restriction when deemed necessary. Parking will be available along the adjacent streets and access to all driveways will be maintained during construction.
Please contact the Engineering Department at 845-569-7447 with any questions or concerns. The City of Newburgh appreciates the public’s patience while the City of Newburgh works to complete this construction project.
