Streets and Bridges

The Streets and Bridges Division is established under Article IX of the City Charter and is responsible under City Charter §9.03(E) and §263-3 of the City Code for the maintenance and repair of all streets and other public property within the City. The Superintendent of Public Works is also responsible for the management of parks, boulevards, trees and shrubs under §263-4 of the City Code.

The Streets and Bridges division is headed by the Superintendent of Public Works, who is appointed by the City Manager. The current Superintendent of Public Works is George Garrison. 

Typical responsibilities include:

  • Administration of City fleet
  • Maintenance of City Parks and other properties 
  • Maintenance of City streets and bridges
  • Maintenance of municipal buildings
  • Paving
  • Snow removal
