City of Newburgh waste collection rules can be found in City Code Chapter 183, Article II. Rules for separating garbage from recyclables are found in City Code §183-12(A). Proper handling and disposal rules for garbage are found in §183-13. Requirements regarding waste, garbage, and recycling collection are found in §183-15. Sanitation or Code Enforcement Officers will ensure compliance.
Covered Cans With Lids
Garbage must be placed into plastic bags, and the bags must be placed inside a metal or plastic containers with lids.
Containers may hold a maximum of 96 gallons and may weigh a maximum of 100 pounds.
Containers must be labeled with your street address.
Setting Out & Returning Containers
Containers must be set out only after 6:00 p.m. the day before collection.
Containers and uncollected materials must be returned to the rear of the property (or covered storage area) no later than 6:00 p.m. on the day of collection.
Number of Containers Is Limited
One 96 gallon can for a single-family residence
Two 96 gallon cans for a 2 or 3-family residence
Up to three 96 gallon cans for commercial properties including residences with 4 or more units
No Construction and Demolition Waste
The City does not collect materials resulting from the construction, alteration or repair of structures and consisting of plaster, metal, brick, concrete, lathing, roofing, nails and hardware and materials containing same, earth, structural members and like material. The property owner is responsible for disposing of these materials.
Littering, dumping trash on other people's property, and sweeping trash onto streets and sidewalks is not allowed. Pet owners must clean up after their pets.
