Good Friday 2009 in the City of Newburgh features several processions from several of the city's churches.

St. Patrick’s Church held two processions - one in the morning and one in the evening, with re-enactment of the Stations of the Cross at several locations. This is a long-time annual event for the parish.

The group led by Pastor Charles Campbell, First Congregational Church began their portion of the ecumenical procession, which included Stations of the Cross, in Washington Heights by First Congregational Church.

They walked along Liberty Street to South Street, where they joined the procession led by Fr. Bill Scafidi of St. Mary’s Church, which had started at Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. Stations of the Cross continued at various stops along South Street.

The procession included Rev. David Mason, president, Greater Newburgh Ministerial Association, Dr. Benilda Armstead-Jones, Rev. Harry Brown, Elder Dextro Tiller, and Rev. Dennis Ashley, City Council members Regina Angelo and Mary Ann Leo-Dickinson.

Young people from Habitat for Humanity, Buffalo, New York and St. Mary’s youth group assisted with carrying the Cross from Station to Station.

The final Station of the Cross took place inside St. Mary’s Church, followed by prayer, remarks from participating clergy, and the singing of “Amazing Grace,” by Lillie Howard. The group then came together for a photo.
