Alternate Side Parking

The City of Newburgh enforces alternate side of the street parking regulations to facilitate street sweeping. Contained in Ordinace 3-2007 and an amendment in Ordinance 10-2007, the regulations went into effect on April 1, 2008.

For the purposes of alternate side of the street parking, the City has been divided into two sections. [download this summary]

Street sweeping will be conducted on Monday and Tuesday in Section One; on Wednesday and Thursday in Section Two. The regulations only apply on street sweeping days.

Section One

  • All streets south of Broadway, in addition to the Colonial Terraces district, which is defined as streets east of West Street, west of Carter Street, and south of South Street.
  • Monday: Parking is allowed only on the side of the street with odd building numbers from 8 am-3 pm.
  • Tuesday: Parking is allowed only on the side of the street with even building numbers, from 8 am-3 pm.

Section Two

  • All streets north of Broadway, with the exception of the Colonial Terraces district.
  • Wednesday: Parking is allowed only on the side of the street with odd building numbers from 8 am-3 pm.
  • Thursday: Parking is allowed only on the side of the street with even building numbers, from 8 am-3 pm.

Exceptions

  • Parking is prohibited on both sides of Broadway from Monday-Friday between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.
  • Mondays only: Parking is allowed on the side of the street with odd building numbers on the following streets between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.: William, South William, Liberty and Mill.
  • Tuesdays only: vehicles can only be parked on the side of the street with even building numbers on the following streets between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m.: William, South William, Liberty and Mill.
  • Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays: No parking on the west side of Dubois Street from Broadway to First between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. No parking on the west side of Dubois Street from Third Street to South Street
  • Tuesdays and Thursdays: No parking on the east side of Dubois Street from Broadway to First between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. No parking on the east side of Dubois Street from Third Street to South Street between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m.

An amendment to this ordinance regarding alternate side of the street parking on Broadway is currently under consideration by the City Council; however, parking continues to be prohibited as indicated above at this time.

These regulations do not supersede any other parking regulations, but are in addition to them. The ordinance does not apply to physicians or other persons or emergency vehicles pursuing their duties in an actual emergency.
