Eric Paolilli, Chief of Police
Eric A. Paolilli was appointed Chief of Police by the Newburgh City Council in December 2004.
Joining the force in 1987 at the age of 22 from the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, Chief Paolilli has held leadership roles including Supervisor of the Canine and Mounted Units and Supervisor of the Underwater Search & Recovery Team. He served in the Accident Reconstruction Unit and is a Certified Police Instructor. He was promoted to Detective in 1991, to Sergeant in 1993, and to Lieutenant in 1996.
He has also served on the Proactive Arrest Team and Operation Impact. He was assigned to the newly reinstated Neighborhood Police Unit in the early 1990s, and the effectiveness of this unit led to the reestablishment of the community police concept in Newburgh.
Chief Paolilli is a recipient of the Police Department Bronze Star.
He has been honored several times for Meritorious Police Duty and Excellent Police Duty. He was Orange County Police Officer of the Year in 1990 and received recognition as a World Trade Center Responder in 2001.
