The Industrial Development Agency is a public authority established by Chapter 577 of the Laws of the State of New York in 1982.
The IDA is a state-regulated local public authority whose mission is to assist in the development and financing of economic development and community revitalization projects in the City of Newburgh. Board members are responsible for providing policy direction, management oversight and determining the allocation of resources for the agency.
Volunteer board members bring a variety of skills and experience, including familiarity with finance, business and community development. A 2008 New York State ruling prohibits city council members from sitting on the IDA.
