The Newburgh City Assessor's office is a busy place. In addition to managing assessments on more than 6,900 properties in the City, administering exemption programs, tracking sales and handling other matters involving property valuation, the office fields a plethora of questions from people who have discovered that opportunities abound in the City.

In 2007, 153 single-family homes were sold at prices ranging from $58,000 to $700,000. The average was $219,600 (the median was $210,000), reflecting a 5% increase over 2006. Taxes on that average property were about $5,500 in 2007.

City Assessor Steve Ruelke, and his seasoned and expert support staff — Marion Perna, Angela Collery and assistant assessor Angelo Lallis — welcome visitors on weekdays between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.
