Proposals sought for first "Percent for Art" Commission

The City of Newburgh, through its Department of Planning and Development and its Arts and Culture Commission, seeks to commission an artist to create original artwork(s) for the City of Newburgh Courthouse at the Broadway School.

Art & Cultural Commission to present "Impressed Ink" book festival Sept 20-21: Announcement.

Percent for Art Program

On November 26, 2007, the City Council adopted developed legislation developed by the Arts Commission establishing a "One Percent for Public Art" program, whereby 1% of large construction projects will be set aside to fund public art.

During its first two years of operation , the Arts & Culture Commission has developed the following:

The commission helped hire the Cultural and Economic Director, following a rigorous procedure and evaluation instrument.

Ongoing projects include planning for a major arts event, establishing an arts center, and providing other forms of support for visual and performing artists.
