Here are a few suggestions of things to see when you get here... |

Grand and Montgomery Streets
Drive or walk along Grand and Montgomery Streets to enjoy some of the City's most impressive Victorian architecture, including the landmark 1835 former Dutch Reformed Church and dozens upon dozens of great old houses. (More on neighboring blocks, too!) |
Downing Park
Newburgh's surprising gems include Downing Park, an urban oasis by Olmsted and Vaux, with meandering paths, pond, bandshell, pergola, and shelter house (also the city's visitor information booth). |
Waterfront
Stroll along the Hudson River, take a river cruise on Pride of the Hudson or the River Rose, have a picnic in Unico Park, visit the Yellow Bird Gallery, or have meal at any of a half-dozen restaurants. |
Karpeles Museum
The Karpeles Manuscript Museum, on the corner Broadway and Liberty Street, offers rotating exhibits of manuscripts in the private Karpeles collection. |
Washington's Headquarters
In addition to the house Washington occupied in the last 18 months of the Revolutionary War, the nation's first state historic site includes an excellent museum, the 1887 Freedom Tower, and a gently sloping park with lovely views of the Hudson. |
View from the Heights
Drive to the south end of Newburgh to see yet more historic houses, plus a stunning view downriver toward Bannerman's Island and the Hudson Highlands. |
